Your Prompts and Tips

Some free resources to help you write better and achieve the success you deserve

Prompts:

1. Spring is a time of rebirth, and this a popular theme for writers. Write a few pages about a character who experiences a change of heart that causes them to be, in a sense, emotionally reborn.

2. Write a few pages about a time-traveling romance. Maybe the characters are from the same time period but meet while jumping ahead to the future, or maybe your protagonist travels back in time and falls in love with someone there.

3. Write a few pages about a kids’ party magician who has the perfect cover to hide the fact that he actually possesses magical powers.

Tips:

1. They say, “No risk, no reward,” and that applies to writing too. Whether starting every sentence with a certain letter, writing a story from the perspective of an ant, or choosing a topic that is not often discussed, some of the best stories stand out because they break the mold in some way, big or small. Take risks in your writing!

2. Whether it’s between a mother and daughter, two long lost friends, or an old man and his pet iguana, relationships are a dynamic part of any story. As you write (and read), keep in mind how all the different relationships in any given story drive the plot forward and raise the stakes.

3. Reading a story requires patience and paying attention to detail. With so many available distractions, we can sometimes miss important aspects of a story we’re reading, especially if we’re multitasking or face interruptions. A quiet, distraction-free environment is ideal, but no matter where you’re reading, try to focus on the story alone. There is no shame in re-reading either!
